The association represents International, National and Reserve Panel umpires, Match Referees and Scorers who are contracted to New Zealand Cricket. Past panel members are also invited to become Associate Members.
The New Zealand Professional Cricket Match Officials Association was originally the Umpires’ Association (NZPCUA), which was first registered in 2011.
Barry Frost was the first president, followed by Phil Jones. They were the sole point of contact between the association and New Zealand Cricket (NZC).
This changed in 2017 the Association entered into discussions to provide a more formal link between the NZPCUA and NZC. An agreement was reached with help of an independent professional to create a Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of all the panel umpires. This now forms the basis of contracts and engagements as independent contractors.
In 2021, Match Referees and Scorers joined the association and as a result, the name was changed to the New Zealand Professional Cricket Match Officials Association.
